Archaeoceramic and whorshops

The history of ceramics of Talavera de la Reina in Ruiz de Luna museum

Archaeoceramics is an educational program, for students from year 6 of Primary School, which is carried out in Ruiz de Luna Museum. It has been designed and it is taught by specialists in didactics, and dissemination of the Historical, Archaeological and Artisanal Heritage: Silvia del Mazo Fernandez, pottery technician with an artisanal accreditation as Official Potter by JCCM, and Rubén Pérez Lopez, Bachelor Degree in History and an Archaeologist, both Managers of “Pequeños Arqueólogos-Talleres Didácticos”.

Archaeoceramics program consists of three parts.

It begins with an educational talk, tailored for every age and educational level, along with a display of images, where the students get to know about the making process and decoration, the shapes and decorative styles (series) that define, differentiate and characterize ceramics in Talavera de la Reina.
The students then take part in a workshop, where they can put into practice all they have learned before. Each one decorates a tile with a motif from a specific decorative series, hence replicating the typical technical artisanal decorative process of the ceramics from Talavera. Once done, they can take the tile home.
Finally, students are taken on a visit to Ruiz de Luna Museum, where they will discover and learn about their museum through experience, game, observation learning, research and active participation.

It is organized and sponsored by the Junta de Comunidades de Castilla-La Mancha, Talavera de la Reina’s City Hall, FEDETO, the Provincial Association of Crafts and Ceramics, Getafe-Madrid UNESCO Center, Eurocaja Rural, Talavera’s School of Art, Pequeños Arqueólogos and El Corte Inglés of Talavera de la Reina.

Archaeoceramics is complemented by “Ceramics Generation”, a contest which consists of informative videos about ceramics and about Talavera de la Reina as a ceramics city-museum, designed, produced and starred by students of the educational centers participating in this educational program.
